Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS) Cart T-Facility,
Leiden, Netherlands

Leiden: A hub for innovation in cell therapy
Bristol Myers Squibb has chosen the Leiden Bio Science Park as the European site for its
CAR-T cell therapy facility. This facility is a key part of our global expansion, which aims to
bring novel cell therapies to patients with blood cancer across Europe and make it easier for
them to access these personalised, life-changing treatments.

First European CAR-T production centre
The Leiden manufacturing centre is our first European site for CAR-T cell therapies, joining
our global network of facilities transforming care for patients with blood cancer. Equipped
with the latest technology and state-of-the-art production facilities, the centre represents
our commitment to ensuring supply of CAR-T therapies.

It will play a central role in our efforts to meet the growing demand for CAR-T therapies in
Europe, shortening lead times and improving patient outcomes by manufacturing them
closer to patients' homes.

With this new production centre, we are contributing to the growing role of the Netherlands
as an international leader in the field of CAR-T cell therapy.

As part of this new facility OMC Technologies were contracted by SISK Group Ireland to provide large
steel structures on the roof of the new building to facilitate the external plant and equipment.
The steelwork had to be fabricated off site to allow for ease of installation, it was required to be
aesthetically pleasing, robust to deal with environmental stressors and cost effective.

For these reasons galvanized steelwork was chosen as the preferred material. The steelwork was
designed and fabricated in OMC Technologies and then galvanized in Ireland.
Galvanized steelwork proved to be the ultimate solution here, it is easily assembled, hardwearing
during transport from Ireland to Netherlands and during installation with cranes and slings.
Another important feature of galvanized steel is the ability for roofing contractors to make roof
penetrations weathertight. Torch on applications work well with galvanized steel which cannot be
obtained with painted steel.

The finish product sits well in the vicinity which is visible from several office blocks. Galvanized steel
was proven to be an excellent choice for this project. It allows for offsite fabrication, ease of
installation, connected using galvanized bolts, nuts and washers eliminating any bi-metallic
corrosion. There is not touch up required and all components have a uniform finish.
All platforms were fitted with galvanized open steel industrial flooring, matching steps and safety
kick plates. Again, all fabricated off site and installed using galvanized flooring clips to avoid
dissimilar metal contact.
Throughout the project the galvanizing partner were always on hand to provide advice on
fabrication, vent holes, gussets, fin plates and any changes that could benefit the finish product.
Overall Galvanized steelwork was the prefect solution for this external application, showcasing what
can be achieved with good design, collaboration with our Galvanizing contractor and building
contractor.
