Ty Tresaith,
West Wales

Ty Tresaith is a residential property located in the small village of Tresaith in West Wales on a steeply sloping site overlooking Cardigan Bay.

To counter the harsh marine environment, the building was constructed from highly corrosion resistant materials – principally concrete, glass, zinc and hot dip galvanised steel.

In particular, steel was used to form a simple cantilevered balcony designed to be almost invisible when viewed internally to maintain an uninterrupted view of the Bay.

The balcony comprises a series of completely pre-fabricated welded components that were bolted together on site and fixed to the primary structure via thermal resistors and tapered brackets.

Frameless glass balustrades were simply clamped to the balcony frame with steel plates.
In addition, hard landscaping elements (including path edgings and the principal external access steps) were pre-fabricated from welded steel plate.

All steel, including fixings, were hot dip galvanised after all fabrication to ensure long term durability.
