Iron  age leader
northam
The IRON AGE WARRIOR is a sculpture inspired by the artists' fascination with the Iron Age era ( around 1200-550 BC) and the skilful metalworking techniques that were discovered and used during the period. The body of the sculpture is made from sheet mild steel. Twisted mild steel wire forms the hair , moustache, sling shot and arm band. The galvanized body has been polished. The shield is clad with copper and brass, riveted in place and completed with a copper torc around the neck. The galvanized surface lends the sculpture a “semi precious metal“ feel.

The sculpture stands approximately 30cm tall. It is typical of the smaller sculptures which often form the basis  for the artists'  larger public art sculptures, as seen in their 2023 GAGA art award for Cooper Street Bideford. They have been making this sort of public art work since 1997, employing the hot dip galvanised process from the beginning. These pieces still look great to this day.
